Yesterday I did something REALLY stupid, I was screwing with my amps to "see" something. Well, I have a pcx-440 and they have the screws on the bottom side of the amp. My wires are real tight so I have to wire it upside down then turn it to mount it to the floor. I brainfarted, and hooked the power up backwards. As soon as the ground wire came in contact with the amp it looked like someone was welding in my truck. It blew my 150 amp fuse at the battery and I figured I fried my amp. It actually welded a piece of metal to the ground wire. Needless to say I was pissed at myself After I got a fuse, I rigged it back up just to see and it worked. I was seriously surprised. I'm pretty impressed that the PPI amp survived my stupidity. Just thought I'd share.

haha, I did something like that with an old audiovox amp I had. I didn't screw the power on tightly enough and it poped out when I made a sharp turn and swong back and touched the amp. Smelt smoke immediately so I pulled over and to my surprise the power had welded to the amp, it destroyed my fuse, it didn't blow, it melted. The wire ends on the fuse holder were fused to the fuse holder and the terminals on the amp were hot as heck. Needless to say, if you ever gotta ghetto fuse something that a good way to do it.

If I were an amp designer I would color-code the connections...bright red, deep black, and striking blue...instead of those little hard-to-see + and - and REM symbols.

Lucky for you that you used a fuse on that wire. Some people don't even use fuses and wonder why stuff is messing up.

I'll definately check twice next time. The + and - symbols are actually covered by the plastic housing the terminals connect too. Not saying that it wasn't my fault for sure, but like Stevdart said something idiot proof would be nice. My wires didn't melt, even at the battery where the fuse blew so that's good. I'll be paranoid next go round.
