Is it normal for the back to a head unit (pioneer) to get blistering hot in the back after an hour of playing it.

some units do get very hot, yes....it could also be indicitive of a short in the wiring.... if you're worried about it use a meter and meter the current draw on the power lead with the unit running, if you are drawing 3-5 amps before you power the unit up or at very low volume settings i'd suspect a pinch or short on a speaker wire...if its only running an amp or so then i'd say it's fine and that unit just runs hot.....
