I just installed my system and I want to make sure my amp is set right. On the amp is a control that says min and max, this is set at about half. Then their is a setting for HPF and LPF, these go from 40Hz to 250Hz. This is the gain correct? I set these a little below half. The bass boost is on and it is set to LPF. Are these settings ok? I dont want to blow my subs. The subs are 2 Orion C12s (200W RMS, 400W max) the amp is a Power Acoustik 525W max 2 channel amp, I dont know what the RMS is, but it has a 40 amp fuse.

That amp is probobly outputting around 300 watts on a good day. First of all turn down the bass boost posted_image (or even better turn it off)! Set the filter (the control you called the gain, which it is not) to low pass, and turn it to around 75 to 100 hz (what ever setting seems to make the subs blend with the main speakers the best). Next, set your gain correctly (the control that says min. max and it is not a volume control its a level matcher) if you havn't already. 1. Turn down the gain all the way on your amp, 2. Put in a cd that has good bass and turn your head-unit about 3/4 of the way up, 3. Slowly turn the up on your amp until you hear distortion coming from your amp (buzzing or rattling coming from your subs, and mushy bass), then turn down the gain right before the point of distortion. Don't turn your volume control past the point where you set your gain and you should be fine (as long as you don't turn up your bass boost, at all).

bass boost is just asking for sloppy signals, distortion, and blown woofers.
