Hey, I have an Infinity 12" 1230W. It requires a 1.25 cubic foot box. The one I have is 0.95 ish.
How much dampining material would I need to fake it up to 1.25?
How much would this affect the sound of the sub and at what frequencies would it be droping out at?
thanks for you help.
You can't stuff enough polyfil in the box to make the box seem like its 1.25 ft^3 Also take into consideration the space that will be taken up by the speaker itself. Use the guidelines for enclosure requirements set by the manufacturer, in this case Infinity, and build a new box for your sub. There is no other way around it, because having some idea of how much you are losing out on sound quality isn't going to do you any good. There won't be anything you can do to compensate for the loss.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
yep build the right size box, I've seen too many good subs killed by too small a box (some even overheat)

Yes, and its such a shame that some people dont have enough energy to build a box. I saw some kid with a 400 dollor sub, in a tiny box, and then there was a 100 dollor sub that sounded so much better. Take the extra time to do it right, build the right sized box

It is better to remain queit and have others think u are dumb, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
greenlantern,
I agree that you just need to build a new box for the 1230w. The owner's manual does call for a 1.25ft^3 for a vented enclosure, but if you will notice it also say's to "loosley" fill with fiberfill. Most people just ignore the fiberfill part, but it does make a pretty big difference. You do not have to use the fiberfill if you do not want to, but you will need to increase the volume by approx 15%. Example: If the volume is 1.25ft^3 with the fiberfill. The volume without the fiberfill (to get the same performance) should be 1.4375 ft^3. Port dimensions stay the same.
Damn it.
Now I have to do work.
Ah well time to return the box.
Is it okay to build a square one? Or does it have to be a wedge design?
