hi all,
Just a quick question about 5x8 speakers. I would like a good quality 5x8 speaker. I would like SQ but not the SQ you would get with components. I would like to stay stock. Is it possible? I just dont have the money, and when i say that, it's i have money for a 2-way just not components. And i don't want to modify
I have a 2001 Ford Escape. NON Mach speaker system.
Any suggestion? Thanks

Crutchfield lists several coaxials that fit your vehicle. Look for a high sensitivity and wide operating range like this Polk I linked to. Any 5*7 or 6*8 speaker will fit. With RMS ranges of up to 60 watts, they can stay in place if you decide to save up for an amplifier. Just replace the original 29 cent POS crap and play the new ones with the factory deck until you can keep upgrading. Take your time and do some shopping. You can find good close-out deals at some of the online retailers or Ebay. I think most of the stores use Ebay for all their discontinued speakers. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Sorry..... i did mean 6x8.
I will have an amp, but i'm in the process of saving, and i figured that speakers/sub/amp. not reallt in that order. But i have 4 6x8's and i want a sub.
I will have all, looking for SQ (not for competition).

I like the sould of the Infinity Kappa 572.5cf or the MB Quart RCE 268. JL's XR 570 sounds great, too. ------------- Support the12volt.com

How about a 5" or 6" and a tweet in a baffle. If going for sq.

Want to stay stock, just listened to the Alpine type r, they were very impressive. IMO they beat Boston and a few other's that were there.

IMO the alpines where heavily concentrated on BASS and not mids or highs... i really like the kappa 5x7 i have them running off of my deck and recently rewired 2 of the speakers about 1hr ago and put the bass on the deck maxed out and it sounds superb and the bass output is awesome and for a deck/amp it sounds glorious

agreed, alpine is good if youre shooting for bass without a sub ------------- everything stolen :(

Hey all, just wanted to say thanks for everybody reply.
The last 2 were against the alpines. I did not think they were towards base? What type were you listening to?
The highs were awsome and the base was there, but no where near what some were. and VERY clear, even over Boston acoustics, eclpise, and a few other i cannot remember? (I'VE SLEPT SINCE THEN).
Please post back because now i'm going to go back a
re-listen to them.
Anybody else? I'm not to worried about money because i'm going to peace everthing together. May take a while but...... just not going to pay $1000 for a set of speakers.

You're doing your speaker selection the right way. Just keep in mind, we all have different opinions of what sounds best to our own ears, and most of us don't have what sounds best to us because we either haven't heard it yet, can't afford it, or are not out listening to what's available. And give that guy who is setting up the comparisons for you the sale.
