Some guy wanted show me his sub

he had a honda civic 2001 or something any ways

he popped his trunk and had a single 15"  and some amp. but i'm sure its not brand name like fosgate, jl audio, or kenwood. he told me it was a "eagle" amp ... WUT ever.

but when he bumped that sh*t. it fUken rocked. that sh*t kicked like woah. he ran 4guage wires to his amp. no cap at all he had a pioneer deck

i'm thinking is that sh*t stronger than my (2) 12" inifinity perf kappas?
im running on an 8 guage kit, with a 1200 fosgate amp. no cap either. i have a keenwood deck

You need four gauge power and ground cable if you are running anywhere near the RMS of those subs (300 to 350 watts continous each). It should blow that one sub away, if its off brand.

No.  its all in the box setup and tuning.  Tho upgrading power will help with load.

Hell if done right you could make a pair of 8" subs sound louder than it.

You have a pre fabed box?

you need a bandpass box. seal the back, port the front. your sh*t will kick ass. and you need a 4 gauge kit, its a must for that amp. my buddy specializes in box building so i made a bet with him. he went to radio shack and bought two sh*tty 8" subs for $10 bucks each. he sat there for 2 hours with a calculator and a piece of paper figuring ports and sealed volume. i could hear those sh*tty subs 2 blocks away off of a 75 watt amp. ITS ALL IN THE BOX.

IF you go with bandpass its tuned to a small number of freq's and if you like listening to songs other than bass lines...its not the way to go.

A properly built ported box- or even a folded horn or something along that line, will give you great sound.

another factor to think about is the car itself...some cars like hatchbacks and the 70's camaro's/firebirds have a natural horn effect making them pound.  If that guy had a hatchback and your working with a station wagon or regular trunk...then that is something else that can effect it.

Never get a bandpass, they sound like crap. Ported is the way to true spl. And what the hell is your problem with honda?

every time you try to tell me that i don't know what i'm talking about you never have anything to back it up. you are the type of "specialist" that sees something in a car and then, having never done it, tells everyone all about how it's done. bandpass boxes that are sealed in the back kick ass. they hit higher freq's and don't go as low. but they will beat the piss out of a ported. if you don't seal one side the sub just sits there and vibrates. that sounds like serious poo. if you calculate the port right they can sound good, but you'll never hear them as far away as you would a properly built bandpass box, especially in a hatchback.

Auex is right, a ported box has many advantages over a bandpass. Sure a bandpass can play loud but only in a narrow band range, while a ported box can play loud over a much larger frequency range. A bandpass box also sounds very boomy, and uncontrolled, where as a ported box dosn't have perfect sound quality either, it is still much better compared to a bandpass. It's alot harder to make a bandpass box sound good also, compared to a ported box.
