I just installed 4 Infinity Kappa 572.5's in my car, and I have a Rockford Fosgate 360.2 amp that I'd like to use on them.
From the amp: 90x2 RMS continous power into 4 ohms with less than 0.05% THD from 20-20khz---180x2 watts RMS continous power into 2 Ohms with less thatn 0.10% THD from 20-20khz
From the speakers: # Maximum Power Handling Of 180 Watts (peak)
# Continuous Power Handling Of 60 Watts (rms)
Could this work? Is there a way to make it work?

A bad marriage, so a four channel amp is in order. If you were to wire each side in series, too little power to the speakers. If wired in parallel, quality degrades at a 2 ohm load (see the spec on THD). And there is still the difference of RMS value: 60 for the speaker and 90 for the amp.

Actually, it could work fine.
First of all, remember that speakers themselves easily have 10% distortion at high levels, so 0.05% compared to 0.10% distortion from the amp is NOT going to make a difference.
So, let's say that you parallel two speakers into one channel of the amp. On paper, that's 180W at full volume, divided onto two speakers, 90W per speaker. I recommend not staring yourself blind on the wattage figure, but using your ears instead.
It's possible to blow almost any speaker with almost any amp if you abuse a system (turn it up way past the distortion point and leave it there) - but if the speakers SOUND fine, they ARE fine.
"Turning power down on the amp" is turning the volume down. Turning the volume down 3dB (barely noticeable) cuts the amplifier power in HALF. If you want to be a safe side, keep the volume control a couple of notches from the maximum *clean* volume, but I really wouldn't worry. The amp seems like a fine match for the speakers actually.

FYI, the Kappa 572.5cf is rated at 100 watts RMS. As already stated, the only thing wrong with your proposed setup is you lose significant SQ by running a full-range amp at 2-ohms, and you will not have the ability to fade front-to-rear with a 2-channel amp. I'd use the Power 360.2 to run a sub and get a better quality 4-channel amp for the mains. ------------- Support the12volt.com
