Hey i was wondering if you guys think a 2004 BMW 330i could handle the extra load of an Alpine MRD-M1001 on its stock alternator?

I would have to venture to say no... BUT.. i have no idea what the stock alt is like on that beemer. That said, I think you should get a new Alt. I did and i think it was the best addtion to my system that i ever did. ------------- everything stolen :(
Workin on a new system :)

If you're running it at 2 ohm mono, u might see some headlight flicker. At 4 ohm mono, u shouldn't notice anything. I'd go for it, and definitely get a 1 farad capacitor.

Most german cars have larger then average alternators. I would try your amp in that car and if headlighting dimming is severe then buy a H.O. alternator.

BMW have serious computers in them that Draw alot of power. Thats why the altenators seems so big, same can be said for benz, VW and Audi's. All the new ones have bigger than average altenators. Now with that being said, thats a big amp and I am guessing that its gonna pull far more than the reserve on the car and is gonna make your lights flicker and what not. Will the car shut down, no. But I am guessing that its gonna throw some mad draw at that car. I would see about a bigger altenator but on a BMW I gotta think its gonna cost some serious coin.

well damn, Can anyone think of a good amp to run the eclipse titanium 15 on. RMS of 750. I want a really good amp though. I dont think the mrd-m501 could move it enough. They are tested at 600 watts rms with 14.4 volt though. But any amp suggestions? And can i hook up an amp to a 330i without an aftermarket headunit? (Does the bmw have preamp outputs?)
thanks

No preamp outputs, your options are limited to a high level converter or getting RCA's soldered on to the board by someone who knows what they are doing.

Get yourself a Audio Control processor with a built in LOC ---> amplifier choice with sub level controller = wait a minute it was a Titanium Eclipse 15" = There are lots of amplifiers suited to this task. Keep looking and one will pop up. Find a amp that is designed and engineered to operate at 2 ohm mono. Eclipse, Xtant and Rockford come to mind. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

How good are eclipse amps? I found one that looks like it may work. CLICK (model # 34230) It says the amp will run 370 x 2 watts RMS @ 4 ohm. SOO could i run each 4 ohm voice coil in the DVC sub on one channel giving the sub a total of 740 watts rms? I guess my ? is if you can run each VC off a diff channel of the same amp? If this would work do you think the alt. could handle this amp. ------------- dream it, build it, fiberglass it

As far as I know a LOC is the same thing as a high level converter, if not than I guess thats what I was trying to get at anyways. And if the other guy is running a MTX 1501D and not having any problems than I would guess that Alpine would be fine because that MTX amp is a current pig, I know, I used to sell em.

That converter looks like it would work just fine, although you might look into forbidden's suggestion for the Audio Control processor...The amp will put out stereo with the two channels, so a coil on each channel will have a different input from the other coil. I have seen both pros and cons for wiring coils separately. I think, though, that if the RCA inputs to the amp were combined with Y cables to form a mono signal input to each channel, so that they were each the same input, you could go ahead and wire each coil like that. But I am just speculating, I haven't done it. The Eclipse has a stereo/mono switch. I don't know if that itself will combine the left and right signals. That would do away with the Y cables if so. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

From my understanding, that is exactly what the switch should do, at least thats what it has done on other amps I have used. The elipse are great amps adn should work wonders on that 15. And even though its not nessasary I think its kinda nice when everything matches up. If for no other reason than asthetics
