What happens To DVCs when they are only connected to only one end as Single voice coils. I have a friend who has a pair of 12" JL audio W6's 6 OHM DVCs but they are connected stereo to the amp only one end of the coils is connected in each sub. I know my Kicker says we shouldn't connect onle one end but i dont know what happens if you do, his JL's sound good.

Even though they may work, they'll probably die prematurely as there's now only one voicecoil doing all the work, and it'll get pretty hot.
With 6 ohm DVCs he could parallel the two voice coils and end up with two 3 ohm loads for the amplifier. I believe *any* modern car amplifier will handle that with no problems whatsoever - and it might just get quite a bit louder, too (theoretically 3dB).

The only thing wrong with doing this is that the power handling of the sub is usually knocked down by half. There is nothing wrong with only using one coil. In this case however I would also wire these particular subs in parallel and make them a 3 ohm driver and run the subs in stereo to the amplifier.

A couple of the speaker parameters will change as well. We have a great tech paper on this found below.
