I've installed my Alpine Head Unit in and it works perfectly. I have 2 extra wires comming from the car though that I'm not sure what to do with. One is solid green and one is WHITE/ green. Using a multimeter I have found that they both are power wires. They also cause my dash lights to not come on and my problem is that I can't figure out how to wire them so that my stereo works and my dash lights work. I have looked at a wiring diagram with no success. I am hoping some of you gurus have previously encountered this and know what to do. I'm pretty sure they are related to the dimming circuit somehow, not sure how or why they make my dash go out tho!

help please!

Cheers,

Shaun

I should also add that I have searched the forum for similar problems but haven't found anything that will solve my problem :(

hmm.....neither of them should be pwr wires. are you sure? the solid green one should be illumination and will show +12v when the parking lights are on. if your alpine h/u has an orange wire coming out of it, you can connect these 2 together. the WHITE/ green can be ignored altogether.

good luck!

oh, btw.....if your dash lights are out, it's possible that you may have blown the fuse for the parking lights. check your fuses and also make sure that the green wire is not exposed or in danger of touching anything conductive.

HI,

yes I meant that is carries power when the lights are on. I do not have a dimmer wire for my HU as they are right now they are both taped off seperately with no connections being made. they both carry power with the lights on and no power otherwise. all my fuses are fine, none are blown. the tail light fuse blows when I ground either of the 2 wires but I have replaced it with a good fuse.

when I put the stock deck back in everything works fine which leads me to believe something is happening inside the deck that needs to happen now to make my dash lights go on. would grounding the 2 wires and having a resistor in the line solve my problem without having the fuse blow? I am rather frustrated as it is and cannot figure this one out.

Thanks,
Shaun

that really is bizarre. you say that your dash lights work fine if you put the stock h/u back in? somehow somewhere something is not right....that green wire must be getting pinched or exposed somewhere along the way. just out of curiousity, did you check the fuses in both fuse panels (in the engine bay area and at the driver's kick panel area)?

hi, yes I know this is very strange...I have checked each and every fuse I could find...initially both the dome fuse and the tail fuse burnt out. as it is now alll fuses are good with the proper amperage fuse in place. someone suggested that my dimmer mght be burnt out but last time I checked it both of the power wires carried current through to the dimmer ground.

any ideas?

i have trouble believing that your dash lights will work with the stock h/u back in place but not work when it's out. that is not consistent with any of the hundreds of toyotas (or any other brand for that matter) that i've worked on. i've yet to come across a h/u that controls dash illumination, especially in a 92 toyota. wish i could test this out for myself. i'm out of ideas though.

DYohn? what do you think?
