does anyone else have the subwoofers (assuming thats what you are running the amp for) start humming when you have the Ign on but the factory radio off? im digging through my First class book and cant find anything on it other than the two brown wires (usually) are supposed to be connected to 12v+ and ground. any thoughts?

use dual shielded rca's and run them on the other side of the car. what you are hearing is the humm of the alternator jumping through your amp wire and into your rca's.

ok, good thought but you read it wrong. i said with the IGN on, not the engine. and its not alternator noise. im talking about a 50hz humming at a decent volume, enough to feel it.

Most LOC's are electronic devices that need power and ground hooked up to work proerly. Some electronic LOC's have a third brown wire that is to be grounded if noise is present. Get the LOC hooked up properly first and retest. Does this hum go away when the rca's are unplugged? jc18750, thanks for your attempt at help, unfortunately it is a little misguided. This is more than likely a belief in a possible problem but infact it is far from the truth. Perhaps someone told you about this or you read it somewhere else, noneless it is incorrect and we don't want to send people down the wrong path. i think youre on to it forbidden, ill see what i can come up with on the next LOC install. the humming does stop when the RCAs are unplugged, so from process of elimination...  ------------- MECP certified installer

I had this problem the other day in a car i did, lincoln ls, basiclly what causes this hum is, you are using a swithed power source instead of the remote turn on, I bet the car u are putting this in has a factory amp. if the factory deck has a true turn on use that instead of the switched accessory, if the turn on is weak u may need a relay, if not turn down the levels on the hi-level converter, this sometimes fixes it, if still nothing, try reversing the polarity speaker wires, still no luck, make sure the brown wires are not accidently touching ground when u put all the stuff behind that dash. anyhow thats my 2 cents.
