If the front stock speaker locations are really only 3.5", you might want to consider custom fitting larger speakers (either in the doors, but preferably in kick pods).

There ARE aftermarket 3.5" speakers (Boston Acoustics makes a decent pair, for their size anyway) but there's no way you can get a well balanced system with speakers that small in the front. 3.5" speakers realistically don't have much energy below 200hz, and the sub shouldn't really go above 100hz, and that's a BIG hole in frequency response.

Then again, some people don't mind that type of sound (very boomy) so it might not be a problem - depends on what you're looking for, and how much you're willing to spend.

I would have to second Leif. depends what you are looking for and whether or not the big gap in frequency response makes a difference to you.

Yes and no, you hear different that anyone on here with an opinion. Head out and listen to speakers like MB Quart, Focal, Eclipse, Infinity for a start. Buy the ones that you like the sound of and can afford.

Yep, forbidden is absolutely right.

Do remember though that they will not sound the same in your doors as they will installed elsewhere, so if your doors are poor speaker compartments (as many doors are, mine included), it wouldn't make sense to buy expensive components without first fixing the enclosures. However, you might just be lucky and get great sound from them, so give it a shot! :)
