The JL Audio Mono amps configured this way also.  Even though it's a mono block amp, it gives you the option of running two subs.

My Phoenix Gold amp has the same thing. When I first saw it I was kinda confused, so I tried bridging the amp, but got nothing, so then I hooked up each voice coil of my sub to an output, and it worked great. What it is, the amp is internally wired in parallel, it just has two outputs for multiple subs.

A mono amp by definition has ONE output.  Many mono amps have multiple connection points, all connected to the same output.  It is OK to use either output.  Be aware if you connect a speaker to each one, this places them in parallel on the amplifier.

Chalk up the new rockford amps into that catagory. If its a 2 ohm stable mono block and you have two four ohm subs you connect one to each side. If you have  a dual voice coil sub you will be using one positive from one side and one negative from the other side, but check your manual to be sure of which ones and if you are using  a single voice coil 4 ohm driver then you just hook up to one side.
