Ok, I'm installing 3 subs in a friends car soon, he's got a mono amp and 3 4ohm SVC subwoofers. What would be the best wiring configuration for this? I usually dont have problems wiring subs but I've never done 3 SVC subs run to a single mono amp. Thx for any help.

Hmm.  Well it SAYS it is 2-ohm stable, so you could try all three subs in parallel, which will get you a 1.33 ohm load.  MAYBE it will handle the load, but since it's a Sony product you may just create a molten hunk of plastic where the amp used to be.  The only other option with 3 SVC 4-ohm woofers is to series them for a 12 ohm load, but I'll bet your client won't like that since the amp will only push about 85 watts into 12 ohms.  Sorry, it's not a good match IMO.

That configuration will give you the 12 ohm load with the center woofer in reverse polarity.

ahh crap. Ok, thanks stevdart. I'm gona wire them up tomarrow in parrallel to see if the amp kicks off. If it does I'll just tell him he needs a different amp, aint like he's an actual customer of mine, just a friend who bought this crap w/o consulting me. Anyway, thanks for the help fellas.

How about just installing two of the subs, that is if the power won't be too great using only two.  Then you can have a two ohm load.  He can then start looking for replacements, and get dual 2 or dual 4's.  Stick the third sub in the hole for looks, lol.

if you wire two 4 ohm subs in series you get 8 ohms and then wire the 3rd one in parrallel with the two in series you get a 2.66 ohm load.i think it would work, but test it and see what it does.

if i can't make it sound good, then it is just a piece of crap anyway

That would work as far as loading the amp, but not as far as listening to it as the single sub in parallel will get twice the power as the two is series, and you might as well only use two.  A far better suggestion is to use only two subs, or get a different amp, or try it in parallel and cross your fingers...

yeah I hear what u all are say'n. I talked to my boy and he's gona put that sony amp on the shelf for now. We're gona pick up a HiFonics Brutus 1000D, they can handle the 1 Ohm load. As for using even speaker number, I usually do, but the system were building is going to be a demo system, stuff to show to our clients. The reson he got that stuff is because he doesn't know much about audio, just engines, and I know more about audio than engines, kinda a trade off of our skills for this customization stuff we do, so he had already bought this stuff before I had a chance to make suggestions, its all good though cuz the new amp will make it all work. Anyway, thanks again for all the help and suggestions.

lol, I like sony's mostly because my first real system consisted of a pair of L1236's run off a 1000x2 sony amp. I like the new P5's because they have this really tight bass that they get from that unique cone. I hate sony amps mostly because they, well, suck. Anyway, the box is going to be finished probably next week, once its done I'll see if I can get some finished product pictures in this mofo.
