I have several inquiries about the 2004 cavalier premium sound system.  I recently purchased 2 12" Phoenix Gold subs plus 4.0.2 amp & an older Kenwood amp which I will be using to power the 2 front & rear speakers.  I am going to keep the factory MP3 deck for now.  To get to the point, I am trying to find:

- the location of the factory amp

- what wires(colors) lead to the front speakers in the doors.

- what the 4 wires connected to the rear speakers do.

If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Collectiv

The factory amp should be in the trunk, behind the carpet above the driver's wheel well. If you plan on using an amp on the factory speakers, you can kiss them goodbye. They can't handle a lot of power even though there is an amp on them already. I would strongly recommned you replace the speakers and upgrade the front ones to 6&1/2 inch models. You should also run new speaker wire as the factory wire is poor.

Really,

Will the fronts allow for 6 1/2 inch speakers to be installed.  I think the factory one's are 4x6 right.

The fronts will allow for a 6.5 speaker but you will have to make a adapter bracket to mount them, I have found that 3/4 mdf works great for this as it allows just enough space to clear the window and thin enough to allow the door panel to still fit.

The premium sound system comes with a componet style of set up with the crossover in the factory amp so your amp would not be able to amp them even if they could take the power.

So there is now way to use another amp onto the existing speakers....because they are powered by a factory amp that has a built-in crossover.  Is this correct?

Even if I use my amp along with an external crossover?
