OK here is my scenario. Im trying to install an aftermarket stereo into a 2004 Trailblazer, its the Premier DEH-960MP I got the harness that you need. The guy at the store said that I still needed the factory stereo somewhere in the car, otherwise my windows wouldnt roll up etc.. I THINK i hooked up everything right but there is no power to the aftermarket stereo, the factory stereo does work it turns on. any suggestion???

The databus factory radio harness does not come with a 12v switched source. try to take a meter and see if your red wire on your harness has power. your factory radio will still work because its working off the datbus power source

action is right on. On newer GM vehilces there is no switched power. most wiring harnesses give you an extra length of wire to run to the fuse box for this. I prefer to go to the ignition harness. In your vehicle the wire would be a orange or brown wire at the ignition harness. make sure you test it first.

^ Myth told by some stereo installers about newer GM radios.  They claim it controls a lot more than it does.. although the radio thing is new to me.  Basically they just got him to spend $60 on something he didn't need.  Sounds like CC or BB to me...

Ah, I should have proof read... that should say "the window thing is new to me."

the "window thing" has really nothing to do with windows. newer GM vehicles integrate a lot of things into the radio. the door chime and some other convenience features are integrated into that factory radio. If you remove this, you can't use those features any more. thats why some people choose to relocate the original radio.

Onstar is the only feature that you can't use that I know of.  If you know of any others please let me know... I haven't heard of anything except Onstar and warning chimes.
