If you are willing to send that much money a good sub would be the JL audio w6 or w7. Maybe if you look you around you can find a set of rockford fosgate he or hx 12's thats a little cheaper then the JL.  I have a set of 12's HE rockfords in my car and  they hit hard as hell and I only payed $200.00 with the box

get one 13.7 w7  and one 100.1 jl amp. And do that. U'll spend hopefully under $1,000.
It will not only BANG! it will last you until the year 2420.

Get something that you like. You will get a lot of different opinions on this board.

Agreed, i shouldn't have posted about that 13.5w7. There is alot of controversy over which subwoofer produces the greatest sound quality and sound pressure level. Head on out to a local audio shop. Look around for subwoofers amps that you like. If it even helps, listen to some of the speakers. And before you do buy it, ask around about that brand type and model. Let me tell you about a situation that i had. I went to a local audio shop one time (that was the first time i bought an audio system) and purchased a DHD 200 x 200 Watt amp along with  Xplosion subs . I was flaked by this generic sub that blew within 1 week of usage. So what ever you feel you like and fits your budget then i suggest you go ahead and take it.

Opinions are gonig to be dime a dozen. Figure out if you want a good sounding sub system or an annoy the neighbourhood / destroy your hearing system as the two are radically different in approach and design. One thing that we can all agree on is that friends don't let friends buy Sony (looks for flamethrower) or use Bose (looks for sledgehammer). Post up exactly what you are looking for in a system. This will then limit the type of responses to the task at hand.

I'll betcha my Sony processor is more precise than any car processor you have played with. posted_image  Basically I say don't buy Sony Xplod junk.  But old school Sony was top notch equipment.

I still like the x-90 sony deck they made with the dual 24 bi burr brown converters. That was a nice deck. Bose in any situation is my sworn enemy, car or home. I just feel dirty whenever I have to deal with it.

Personally i like and have great experience with MTX, at the moment i have two Thunder 8000's that i got new at the flea market for a 110 bucks each and backed each up with jl audio 500/1 amps. Needless to say they hit hard and the sound quality is great.

Side note, the MTX RFL is a one note driver and cant be used for daily music listening as it isnt capable of playing a large range of frequencies. But its loud as all hell.

any sub can really hit hard, if you put it in the right encloser though. i have seen 6.5"s sound like a 15" sub.
