whats louder 4 12’s or 2 18’s

hey what would give me more spl 4 12's or the round 2 kicker compvr 18's in an sealed box and 4 jl audio w3v4 in an sealed box. the kickers or 4 ohm dvc and the amp is an jbl audio 1200.1 bp amp. the older one...............

4 12's have more cone area than 2 18's, and will use more cubic feet of enclosure. That would be my guess, anyway.   Why not go with ported for more spl?

u ask some weird questions sky. Look at it this way. The 18's resonate at much lower frequensies than the 12's, so technically speaking they will be louder at like 18hz than the 12's, the 12's on the other hand resonate better with higher stuff like 30-40hz, so they would be louder at that range. So really this is a neither or either question with both being louder in their own instance. Now if ur talking about which would be louder in a ported SPL setup done to the exact specs of the manufatures, it would be my guess that the 12's would put out more SPL for the same reson stevdart said, cone area would be greater, so it would depend on the subs and the setup and the frequency at which their driven.
