Yeah, it's a wierd time to be thinking of this, but what are the dangers from cranking it up when all the components are very cold, as in like -40* (bros to the north- you know what I'm talkin' about) There is a noticeable difference in sound, and the sound gets better as the cab gets warmer. I assume this is due to the surround and spider being stiff. Could the speaker tear itself apart from extreme cold? And will any of the amps, speakers, or headunits electronics be affected? We all know of the 5 minute morning skip don't we? (well those of us in the icebox of the nation and north. lol)

Chevyman, I was just thinking about that. I have never dealt with weather that cold but have dealt with heat that is out of control. Everyone thinks that it's hot in their area but I never see what some people call a real winter. Down here in the South we see summers of 90+ with a hit index at about 104+ and humidity of 80% or more and winters that may hit the upper 60's. So, as you can see I don't know much about how cold weather affects your system but have a lot of experience with systems over heating do to the hot weather

Oh yeah cold messes with the plastic cones and surrounds. I have a nitro rc, and in the winter my plastic pieces get real brittle in the cold- not even the cold you get. Have the car warm up and stereo on low. for at least 10-15 min. ------------- I need quality equipment, feel free to donate.

Thats why we have car starters hehe, , or an electric stereo warmer haha if you wana get technical.

Maxst is right. Let the car warm up a bit before you blast it. I tore a surround years ago in an old car because it was -30 out and didn't let the car warm up enough. ------------- New Project: 2003 Pathfinder

Cold sucks, I have seen many subs rip themselves up because of stupid customers not letting there stuff warm up first. Last winter we got down to -56 with the wind chill out here and its amazing how many stupid people will jump into there vehicle and let it rip with out letting things warm up first. The only other thing I can suggest is get a internal car heater and plug it in over night, Just make sure that it doesnt start the car on fire.

the thing to remember up here is to turn it down ( or preferably off ) before you leave the vehicle at night...most people up here have remote starters and dont realize that when they fire their vehicle up in the morning at -40C that the stereo is still playing at whatever volume level they left it at..... which will of course over time either destroy their speakers or else shred a bunch of little nylon gears in the cassette/CD mechanism.... it's mostly a case of using common sense...unless i'm taking a road trip, i rarely listen to discs at all from Nov thru Feb as it's not healthy for the CD player and i try to remember to shut the radio off before i exit the vehicle at night...... ------------- Kevin Gerry
