Just bought a 2004 Silverado Ext Cab (1500). Decided to buy the bose option so I didnt have to spend money on after market speakers. However I do need my beloved bass. I'm 17, and this is my first real vehicle I love. I've previously owned a 1987 Nissan Pulsar and a 2004 Cavalier. Didn't really like either. But now I managed to find a job that allowed me to get something I really like.

Anywho, I have a few simple questions.

1. Can I add Subs and an Amp to my factory receiver and still have enough control over my subs?

2. Is there anyway to fit the subs somewhere other than the bed so I still have full function out of my 2nd row seats?

Thanks Much Guys!

P.S. I have 6.5 Alpine Type R speakers from my pulsar that used for about a week. They are in perfect condition, the cones and speakers have no blemishes. I think they retail for over 200? Anyways I have no need for them so if any of you want a pair I'm giving them away for like 70 bucks o.b.o (plus shipping)

Bose eh? - wait until the flamethrower finds you. Yes you can still add a sub to the factory system. Waht you need is a LOC (line output convertor) that "samples" a signal going to the front or rear speakers. It converts a speaker lead to an rca lead. Next find yourself an amp that either comes with or has optionally (meaning buy it) a remote level control. This remote level control is not punch bass, bass boost or any other fancy dancy little knob. This level control is a volume control for the subwoofers only. Have a look at something like a Concept CA525M amp + RM100 level control for a good example. www.conceptconcept.com

You will need some really shallow mount subs or sub. You have a very limited space to work with thus choose the sub to fit the space. Have a look at Planet Audio NEO subs or the new shallow mount Blaupunkt speakers. I have custom built a box for this vehicle and managed to squeeze in a Lightning Audio Bolt 10" sub and had moderate results with it. Moderate meaning, good sound but el cheapo sub. I just looked at one of these trucks 15 minutes ago.

I've got the same truck and put a 10" Rockford Punch Z under each side of the back seat.  QLogic makes behind the seat truck boxes and they lay down almost perfectly there.

I have two Kicker 12" L7's under my seat and it's too much bass. You can buy a custom fit box for around $100. JL stealth boxes are overpriced and if you need to modify, say for a square sub, you're SOL. I found the perfect place for the amps is behind the seat. Due to a built in venting system back there your amps will stay cool. You can also get an amp with a speaker level input and a remote bass knob. I personally don't care for the Bose system and think the Bose name is extremely overrated. You could honestly get enough for that Bose unit to get a better aftermarket CD/ MP3 unit. I have pictures if you want ideas.

Too much???
I custom made a part MDF/part fiberglass sealed enclosure for under my rear seat (2003 Silverado ext cab) housing two 12w6v2's with no permanent alterations to my truck. Do a search for fiberglassing and build your own box. You'll be glad you did it yourself, instead of paying an outrageous amount for something that could of been better.

I'll agree. If you build your own you will be able to add your own touches and build it to the specs of the speaker manufacturer. I build all of my own and it's easier that some think, you just need pleanty of bracing, screws, and glue.

Yes I said too much! I know some people think that the only application of subs is to break windshields, but I spend all my time and money for the enjoyment of  the music. That is what you buy CD's for right?. I don't want to hear my muffler shaking loose and my whole cab vibrating violently. That's not pleasing to listen to.
