Hey guys, I have a diamond audio D3 600.1 amp. Its rated :

150 x 1 @ 4 Ohm Mono

300 x 1 @ 2 Ohm Mono

600 x 1 @ 1 Ohm Mono

Does anyone else have this amp? I was wondering if it would be safe to run this amp at  .5 ohm load (yea, 1/2 ohm) I wanna know if anyone has done it before i go and blow this thing. thanks alot.

I can't tell you if it would handle the load but I wouldn't try it.  A Diamond is too high quality to possibly ruin by overloading it.

If the service center determins you blew the amp by putting an unsafe load on it, warrenty is null and void due to improper install, and general stupidity. If the amp is not rated to do half ohm than it probally wont do it and you probally shouldnt try. I have loaded down my HCCA orion to 1/2 ohm and its not rated for it but I was ready to accept the consequences and the repair bill If I blew it up. I dont know if you can actually tell when you service and amp if it blew because of a low impedence load, I was told you can but was never actually given a explanation how. I wouldnt chance it.

Raven,

Some amps do tell what cause them to go out, it depends on the manufacture and design of the amp.  Here is some of the specs on a USAMP competition amp.

USA-100HC

posted_image This full-featured power house defines state-of-the-art car audio around the world. This amazing product is complete with a fully variable 24dB crossover, Remote Bass Gain, and a 36Hz subsonic filter to deliver massive power where and when you need it most. Exclusive Smart Amp Technology (SAT) monitors amplifier functions and keeps a retrievable record of faults and time of operation.

I just read an article about another amp that has a programable chip that let's you alter the amp to play either in SPL or SQ mode.

Pimp, I wouldn't recommend testing your amps capability if you are not willing to foot the bill if you blow it.
