Too broad a question, some smart a$$ might try and sell you Sony gear (it's really the best you know posted_image). Are you interested in good sound or just want to be loud? Do you want a light show for a cd player or one that sounds good? What kind of music will you be litening to? How much trunk space do you want to give up? Are you buying from an authorized dealer? Who is going to install it? Lots of people will give you opinions based on what they run or sounds good in their friends vehicle or whatever is the hot thing in the industry at this moment. If you are going to spend this kind of $ on a system, let's get the questions answered first.

As you can see, as Rob has mentioned, it is a broad question, try to narrow it down a little. As in, do you have anything you are leaning towards? What are you looking for, Sound Quality, or are you just trying to be loud??

On her ther are probably a couple thousand people and we all have different opinions on what we like, but if there are certain lines or interests involved in a thread, then you may get a more accurate answer to what you are looking for.

Try going to you local stereo shops and listening and looking at products that may interest you, and let us know what you come up with.

Umm, sorry, but I would sell the car you have now, combine the money you get with what you have, and get somthing newer. Not to say that you have a bad car or anything, I've just had bad luck with cars older then 10 yrs.

i have a 91' buick and its doing fine, and even with the odometer working 2% of the time while driving anywhere (if it works at all) it says its put on 250k, but in reality we put well over 500k into it, and its running fine.
viper if your going to be putting that much $$$ into the system you may also think of putting a security system into it as well, specially if your getting others to install for you, i'd also suggest going to a different installer for a the security system, that way they dont know exactly whats already been put into your ride.

as far as suggestions go

I got myself a Soundstream Tarantula, and im very impressed with how its performing so far, i cant compare it to other amps on the same setup, but i was extremely pleased with what it did for my rears (have yet to hook fronts or a sub to it).
Im also purchasing a 10" eclipse which should be here in the next few weeks, and i've heard many good things about the SQ from eclipse.

best thing you can do is, read, figure out what kind of options you want with what portion of the system, and look into who manufactures something along those lines, if you find something that interests you, find information or opinions on it, and then see if you can find a dealer or an online seller that you would be comfortable getting it from online.

HTH, GL and most importantly, have fun. and definitely DIY imho, you appreciate it that much more.

i'm confused... you say you want great sound quality because you'll be listening to rap music....

isn't that a contradiction in terms??

i have never used Rap and SQ in the same sentence

Try to avoid stupid comments, dude.  You've much to learn, and if you stick around and read some posts you'll do just that.

i was asking in all sincerity.... the nature of rap music is limited.... when did you ever hear someone comment on excessive sybilance in the higher frequencies.... rap music has a tendency to roll off at 10 - 12 K... not to be confused with hip hop ( i've some very well produced hip hop music)

so without you getting your panties in a bunch... i'll ask again... which are you striving to achieve... an SQ system or one that will sound good playing predominantly rap music??

k well here is what i was thinking Eclipse speakers front and back with 2 12" kickers for subs and a good sounding deckand have no clue on what kind of amp i should get and hopfully that doesn't cost more than 3000$

if your looking for SQ Eclipse will offer better may offer a better quality product with their Ti series. than the kickers.

just a thought, but kickers will be going in my car sometime or another so im not dissin them in any way, you just mentioned SQ was what you were headin for.

Eclipse CD3424 for the cd player and start with a single Eclipse aluminum 12" sub. Add a Concept mono sub amp and this should sound just fine. Where in Canada are you?

Sorry I do not recognize the name, I might in person though. I'm sure that the members here on this site will agree that you'll be in good hands with me. I am in Nanaimo today, I'll be back on Monday morning. You have a whole pile of options in a 92 Prelude. We have done quite a few of these cars over the years. Kicker has some nice equipment, that said however, if you are interested in listening to your music, I'm quite confident that most people in the industry and on these forums will agree that they are a good loud sub, but not one that has great tonal qualities as compared to other subs in the industry. We are still working on a dual 12" L7 box right now, the fellow has already gone through 2 subs and his JBL amp running them, but now he has a new car and needs a new box. I think that Geoff is working on it later today, stop down if you like.

Well, I'll be the first one to vouch for what Rob has said, though I have been here for a few months, I have passed down a few threads with Rob and can appreciate his knowledge of the industry.

And if you live in that area especially, I would jump on it, lol, its not everyday that you go to your local shop and get the chance to interact with the shop owner, which makes it all the more worthwhile, I would rather deal with the shop owner than a salesperson that sometimes has no knowledge of the equipment he is trying to sell you, only prices.

You should do an all Eclipse system, you can't go wrong, they make some of the best decks, best subs, and there amps and speakers are up there with the best of em.  Pay Rob a visit, listen to sum stuff, then look into getting a package deal, , all dealerships like package deals.

Rob Atkinson is a legend on this forum.  He always steers people the right way, and is easygoing about it, too.  There are a few thousand audio shoppers over the past couple of years who've visited this forum who would envy being in your position right now.  Tell Rob and the guys at Forbidden hey for us.

I have a center chanel sub from my 93 prelude vtec. I took it out. If you want it, i'll sell it to you. I would go for a alpine system.
