okay- I have a xtant 403a (50wX2 + 100X1 @4 ohms) that will be used to push cdt 61-a comps w/the cdt upstage kit one channel per side, and the sub channel will go to a small sub (maybe the RE-8 due to size constraints). The RE-8 is rated at 175w RMS. Is this going to be enough power to the sub, or should I bridge the amp. That would be rated at 100w X 2 + 200w X 1 bridged at 4 ohms. The RE-8 is dual 4ohm. Is this going to work, or should I not bridge. If I were to bridge the amp, would the sq be hurt?

You're okay with what you are proposing. Run the components at 4 ohms, and run the mono amp to the sub at 2 ohms. Your 4 ohm DVC will parallel to 2 ohms. As far as quality goes, talking about subwoofer freqs, in this case you want to use the best method with the equipment on hand. 100 watts will not give you enough ooomph out of any sub. 200 watts matches up well with the RMS rating of 175 for that sub, and is a fair amount of power for your system. The difference of quality that you would hear would be minimal, as opposed to the difference you would hear in the high frequencies. So take the higher power at 2 ohms and 200 watts over the higher quality of 4 ohms and only 100 watts.

Some new information may cause a problem...After looking at the manual for the xtant 403a amp, it listed different information. The previous specs listed were from the website where I purchased the amp. The owner's manual stated that when bridged, i would have 100w X 2 + 200 X 1 at 2ohms. That sounds good for the sub, but will it be a problem for the components (they are 4ohm)? I am not familiar with this amp (or any other for that matter), so does anyone know if this particular amp can run the components at 4 ohms and the sub at 2 ohms.

very reassuring, thank you. Now, if I can just get someone to volunteer to sound deaden, install, and wire everything , (for nothing), at 106 deg F in the shade, I will be set.

Would you rather come up here and do it when it is -40 deg C? At least in the warmth you can keep going and have many justified reasons for drink breaks.
