i got a 01 ram with the iffinity system....anyone know how much does that amp stock amp (pretty sure it has one) pushes?  i got a panasonic 9800U and its a 70X4 ... but doesnt sound like its pushed 70 watts.... should i just rewire the speakers straight to the deck?  bypass the amp?  would it sound better?

Its hard to say how many watts the amp pushes, just run a speaker wire from the rear of the deck, pop one of your door panels off and connect it to one of the speakers, and see how it sounds compared to the other ones..

It doesn't matter how many watts your source is, once you run that into a 2nd amp, the power is made by the 2nd amp. (The original signal is not used for its power, just the signal, if that makes sense.) So, Switch has the right suggestion, to just try rewiring it, and see if you like it more. I think that chances are high that it might indeed be better. However, that 70x4 figure is suspect -- that's probably peak watts, and you may not be happy until you get an external amp. (My thought on these things is that you can always upgrade later, although occasionally I have regretted not getting everything I wanted right from the start. Oh well, no real harm done, just a slight loss of cash from buying a cheap crummy amp that I was still unhappy with....)
