Alright, here's my dilemma.... I have an oldschool mei amp that pushes out 120w x 2 rms at 4 ohm, and obviously 240 bridged. I have a dual voice coil audiobahn 12" (can't remember the model number) which has 2 4 ohm voice coils. Now on to the meat of the question. My amp won't run stable in 2 ohms bridged (2 coils in parallel), but will run 2 ohms stereo (tested it out with 4 cheesy thump subs). Now my question is would it be possible to run the left channel to both coils, and the right to both to get the amp to drop to 2 ohm stereo (or make it think that) to get the extra power? I understand that thd goes up, but I don't think I would notice it from a sub... PS - don't hurt me for having an audiobahn, my phoenix gold 15" ran away from my trunk, and I picked this one up off ebay for $40...

forgot to add, the sub is rated at 500w rms...

You're amp won't think that that is a 2 ohm load and get tricked. Instead, it'll think that you're a nut and play a big nasty trick on you. If you have to use this amp to power the sub until you can get the proper hookup, settle for each voice coil connected to a channel, and run the sub at 240 watts. Adjust the amp gains with a DMM and test signal for matching output of each channel, and use Y-cables to change the stereo signal to mono at the input.

Thanks for the info... That would've been pretty funny to see though! I already have a crossover network converting the signal to mono. Wow, out of my 10 years rigging up stereos in my cars, the is the FIRST dual voice coil sub I've had...

DVC's, I know, it's the "in" thing now. I would bet a majority of new buyers think it must be better, because 2 is better than 1, isn't it? But quite frankly, as for the original question you posed, I don't know how the amp would respond to such a wiring scheme. Maybe someone who has a junk Pyramid and a Walmart DVC can run an experiment and see. The amp might just get 8 ohms, too, but there are too many criss-crossed lines on the little drawing I made for myself of the wiring plan to make sense of it. So I used logic, that being that if it were legit someone would have suggested it on here over the past year or so...
