Hi was recently showed this site and it has amp installation kits with rca's that contain built in remote wires. I've never heard of this before. Are all amps compatible with this feature? I have an Alpine MRV-F340. Please let me know if these would work for me. Knukonceptz.com makes them. thanks

This is not a remote wire. It is a grounding wire for the RCA's . THis will help reduce EMI and if you use this as a remote wire, it will induce the signal that it receives into the system and you may get a whinning from the alternator.

I bought an American Hifi POWERKIT4 online last week. It's also got the remote lead attached to the RCA cable. I've also bought a PIE GM12/PC-PIOX interface for a Pioneer XM tuner in the past, that has the same set-up. All of these just have a braided wire running alongside the main cable. These will work for any application. On the PIE interface I ended up just stripping the remote wire off the cable since I was running a different wire for that purpose anyway- the remote wire and main cable have their own insulation wrapping and can be easily pulled apart. You'll be able to use your RCA cable for anything an RCA cable is used for, and you can use the attached wire for *anything* you'd normally use a wire for, not use the wire, or remove it completely. You don't have to worry about its suitability for your, or any other specific application.

Velocity Motors posted his reply while I was typing mine. Didn't realize it was intended as a ground wire. Never had any whining without the ground, but it makes sense to have it attached to the RCA cable in case you need it.

so just peal it off the side of one of the RCA's and put it in the remote terminal of the amp and connect it to my HU. If i pull one off should i just pull all the other off too?

If you're going to use it for the remote lead and that RCA cable is already going from the HU to the amp anyway, you don't have to peel it off. Just leave it connected so that you don't have to route and manage two different cables through the passenger compartment. The only reason I peeled mine off the PIE interface cable was because it wasn't going to be used in my application and I preferred to remove it- it would've done just fine left connected and not used. I was just trying to show how it's two completely different cables that just happen to have their insulation joined together. Hope I wasn't being confusing.

ok i understand now, but what kept me from understanding what you were saying was looking at the picture cause it looks as if theres only rca's there and no other wire, so i thought it was some rca/remote hybrid or something and made the amp turn on when it got a signal from the rca. I dont know i was just checkin. thanks for your help.

It was originally designed to ground the shielding of the rcas to eliminate engine noise. The remote turn on lead part came in out of laziness of installers. Besides, why would you intentionally run a power wire of any kind that close to the rcas?
