Blown Amp

Crossfire CFA602 (300 x 2  or 1 channel bridged) was hooked up to TWO woofers of 4 ohms using the single bridged channel which of course reduced the load to 2 ohms and after about 10 minutes of some pretty decent sound.........  The amp went dead....... 

 Is there anything I can do here (myself before taking it to a repair shop) to troubleshoot , diagnose and fix this amp?

Also an additional question:  Dont know too much about the namebrand "Crossfire" (Ive been out of the stereo world for quite sometime now).  Is "Crossfire" a decent amp?  This and along with 3 other amps and woofers were given to me by a friend who had recently passed away ( Crossfire CFA602 amp,  Alpine V 360 watt amp,  Sony X-plode 250 watt amp,  Olympus 200 watt amp,  Four Phoenix Gold V Series 10" Woofers, Two Kicker Comp 10" Woofers,  and a Legacy electronic crossover.)..  Any information about these items is very much appreciated.

I am sorry to hear of your friend's passing.  Looks like you have ruined one of the new toys you have.  If you connected the two SVC 4 ohm woofers together in parallel, then that is what created a 2 ohm load.  Connecting a 2 ohm load onto an amp whose lowest rating bridged is 4 ohms is what cooked the amp.  Crossfire amps are certainly worth looking into fixing.  Contact Crossfire for your nearest repair shop.  As for all your other new toys, start doing Google searches for tons of information.

Crossfire amp are pretty good amps and it might be worth looking at getting it repaired.

The olympus is probably a hifonics amplifier, the Alpine is a pretty good amp probably not a sub amp but will play the heck out of some mid-tweets.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, that really sucks blue whale.

This amp is a monster powerhouse. It is a great amplifier and is well worth getting it fixed. Your best bet though is to contact Crossfire and find an authorized service shop or even better (and I hope this is what they will recommend) is to send the amp direct to them. As a former dealer this is what we were required to do.

Yea thats right. For some reason I had a brain cramp. Thats why I wanted to make sure. Thanks for clearing that up.

sry about ur friend....i say the legacy crossover should b scrubbed....um the kickers will knock down trees easily....the alpine amp and the pheonix gold r great also

  First let me thank ALL of you (stevdart, fuseblower, forbidden, pimpincavy, furflier, zane9000, and Aszkutak450) for the information and suggestions.  Many years ago I was very much so into the high end audio crave (It feels kinda weird when you pull up to a stop light and are practically able to knock off the rear view mirrors of the car next to you at age 35.).  But in anycase being that since high school Ive always had a system which was considered above average (anywhere from 150 watts all the way up to 1,400 watts pushing 4-15" woofers), Ive forgotten much about the "how to's" and "what not to do's", so to everyone out there...................  I truly appreciate your help......

 And now for the latest information on my delima:

GOOD NEWS:    The Crossfire amp was NOT blown.......  There was a small short located in the power wire (12 volt constant).

 I have decided to go with this set-up .

Head Unit (Dont laugh too hard).......................................  JVC

Amp to power the mids & seperates...............................  Alpine V-Power

Amp to power the two 10" Phoenix Gold woofers ............  Crossfire CFA602

I didnt think that amp would have been blown. Even if the crossfire amp wasnt rated to handle a two ohm load, running it on a good quality amp like crossfire for only 10 minutes should not blow it. Mabye send it into termal protection, but not blow it.
