To all of us car audio guys out there (preferebly the ones that have done a car or two) -
I have to do a home install for a relative on an 89 Corvette. The Job: Door Speakers!.....No I have heard that they are quite the doozy of a job. What I need to know is what tools I need to bring from the shop (obviously panel popper, drill, lotza bitz) BUT do I need to make wood trims for these speakers? Does the speaker that goes in there need to be shallow? Is it in fact a 6.5" that fits the closest in there? This is all the delco-bose system - but i've never done one in a vette before.

The last Vette that I worked on was a 89, imagine that. We installed oversize 6.5" MB Quart mid's in the stock location. We needed to make a depth reducer due to the mounting depth of the speaker. We were then faced with needing to contour our newly made panel so that it would not make contact with the dash and the door sill. All in all it was a real pain in the crack. If you have a regular 6.5" speaker, it should mount pretty much no problem. Remeber to carefully consider how that speaker centers in the hole, close the door and get a real good idea of the limits placed by the dash and the door sill. If anything, use some masking tape on the door to show as a guide as to where the actual dash and door sill close onto this area. Then you can properly center the speaker and make a mounting adaptor if necessary. If you have an e-mail address I'll e-mail you some pics.
