I am looking for a good set (2) of 8" subs. I want to stay with a 8" because im driving a super tiny geo metro and space is extremly limited, so if i want a proper enclosure the subs themselves have to be little. I really dont know brands that well, but im looking for somthing thats going to be cheap but not terribly poor quality. any ideas are welcom.

It al depends on how much you want to spend and what type of sound you are looking for. JL has a great 8" sub and I do beleive that it sells for over $300.       https://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/8.html

MTX has the T5508-04, T5508-44, The first is a SVC and the second is a DVC

Crutchfeild has the T4508-04 MTX 8" woofer for $69.99

LIKE I said though, it really depends on what you expect out of your system.

www.reaudio.com

You just give them a call and they will refer you to a dealer in your area, and if there is not one, they will sell to you direct.

thanks aneonrider, dont know why my google searches didnt come up with that site.. but anyway I'm also getting a new amp. how are the ones from Resonant Engineering? Or could someone again recommend one thats relativly inexpensive but not crap. Im not trying to be cheap, just on a budget. If it gives you any idea about the kind of sound im looking for... i am currently running 2 8" RadioShack subs on a 500w pyramid amp in an enclosure that is would be close to the right volume for a sealed, but have two big holes cut in the front. Makes you wanna cry right? So basicly anything will be an improvment. :D. I atleast have an ok HU. Its a sony cdx-650m...

I bet you could fit 2 10s in that car w/o giving up much space. Something you should look into, 10s sound worlds better then 8s.

You should look toward Blaupunkt OverDrive series https://www.blaupunktusa.com/BlaupunktUSA/Products/Speakers/Overdrive/Subwoofer/ODw1000.htm
The specs very conservatives and the take very little space...
If you can find a dealer in your area drop by and listen to them

hey u should go for the kicker square 8s solo baric s8L7s....they r 450rms and 900 peak...those would knock ur geo across roads lol...i bet theyd blow away many 12s since they can rms more watts than many 12s

The L7 eights have huge output but are gonna be outta your price range, evn though one would be suffiecent. BTW I ran 4 12's in my swift so there is definatly enough space to do big sysems. I ahve also done 3 10's and kept it all behind the back seat.

I realize that there would be room for larger subs if that was the only thing going back there, but im also placing a computer, dc-dc power supply, and a power inverter in the trunk so cooling is going to become an issue if i start stacking too much stuff on there. also i would like to keep my back seet fairly empty as i do use it fairly often. what kind of price were you talking about for the L7's? and how would those compare to the kickers as far as output?

The ideas have helped alot so thanks guys!

I have a better idea.  We can give you pages of opinions on what sub is good..or better than the others.  Go out and listen.

Being a hatchback, you will get some decent sound from 8's- i had 79 civic hatch :D

If you have the ability and knowledge, build yourself a folded horn box. Its really complicated, but the outcome is awesome sound.  The box for two 8's is like 9.5in x 14in x 33in  Im making one without the specs of the sub-required to make one.  BUT and a strongly suggest, that you build a box, not buy a prefabbed box.  We can help you on how to do it.

never even heared of a holded horn box, what is it? i dont think i will be making it but im still curious. right now im actually right now im making a tube enclosure instead of a box as i posted in another thread. i was finally able to find a tube that was large enough to house the 8's. im using about 1/4 spiral carboard used for pouring cement coloums, however because i know that would be way too weak im also going to get a 10" tube and put it around the 8. then im going to fill the gap with either sand, cement or potting tightly packed. any thoughts on this?

ok aparently i was really tired when i made my last few posts. when i asked about the L7's comparing to kickers... i meant compared to the resonant engennering 8's.

and in the above post thats suposed to be FOLDED horn box.. not holded horn box...

neeeed sleep... why am i still up at 2am anyway? o well :)
