Hi guy's,

Just one simple question here. I am installing my new Cadence Q400 amp for the front mains. The crossover networks are in the front of the van so the speaker wire length from the amp to the crossovers will be over 15 feet. Should I use 14g or 12g wire for this length of run?

Do it once, do it right it is my philosophy.  Use the 12 gauge, it can't hurt anything.

12 gauge is way over kill, 14 guage is also a lil over kill, , but more suitable.

I recomend just using standard 18 awg wire.  It will be MUCH easier to install, and will work just as good as the larger stuff.  Remember the power going through them is high voltage/low current so the wire guage doesn't have to be as large.  I proved this by running 1200 watts through 18 awg wire for a competition and not losing any output.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have a 100ft. roll of 14 g hear and just wanted to know if it would be cool to use it for this aplication as I didn't want to go out and buy the 12g if I didn't need to!

12 gauge for that application would be a complete waste.

I noticed a difference when I changed all my amp to speaker wiring to 12ga from 18ga. A really noticable difference too.

It probably is a waste for you but you can get a 500' roll of twisted 12ga on ebay for a reasonable price. Then you can sell the rest to friends for their installs.
