Are there any tricks to get mdf to contour to the inside of a trunk...? Thanks Matt ------------- everything stolen :(

Make a template with cardboard then use a jigsaw. My grandfather showed me how to do something similar. He made it look easy but he has 50+ years of experience so good luck.

Define contour, bends/curves or just cut with no gaps?
Yeah, use a table saw to turn the mdf into saw dust. Then mix the sawdust with wood glue until it reaches the consistency of paste. Then all you have to do is spread it with a putty knife in the form you want.
Actually there are a couple different ways to bend MDF, but it really depends on what form you want to achieve. Another product is called "bend-a-board".

no i dont want to bend it... im talking about the first reply, stuff like that, like making a carboard template and wood glue thing, those are all good ideas. thanks, any more?? ------------- everything stolen :(

No, not serious. Just a joke, although that is all that mdf is. Seriously, this is the way I like to do what you are talking about. First cut the panel as close to the way it needs to be. Then tape off the area of the trunk that the panel will lay on. Notch the edges of the panel with a jigsaw like this "\ / \ / \ /". Lay the panel where it will go and then mix up some bondo. Apply the bondo to the edge of the panel where it will meet the trunk. Sand the bondo down level to the panel. You will have the perfect fit panel with minimal effort.

you can alsao get a bendable ruler ... and a contour gauge....as far as bends use 1/4 inch mdf..brace it with 3/4
