Hi, I've got a problem that is probably simple but.... about 6 months ago a now former boyfriend decided I needed a "good" stereo system in my 99 tracker, so he decided to give me one for all the things I had helped him with.  Well after he tore my car apart, I had a system that wouldn't work.  Long story short 2 amps later, several subs and speakers later the system was still fried and not working except through 1 speaker, oh also he fried a head unit.  I was so tired of this that after I got rid of him I also got rid of the system and started myself.  I have a new head unit, new speakers, haven't put the new subs in yet and a new used amp.  The system was working great!  I completely rewired everything myself, keeping power wire away from speaker wires, etc. I am only have 2 - 6.5 pioneer 4 way speakers in front and 2 - 6x9 pioneer 4 way speakers in back and plan to put in 2 - 10" subs.  However, I loaned my car to new boyfriend for a week while his truck was getting fixed, now there is a terrible hissing horrible noise from the speakers, I expect engine noise each time I turn it on.  When the car is off - no noise.  I have checked the ground wire and it is still connected tightly, but I am only using 8 ga power and ground.  But it was working for over a month without this noise.  Any suggestions?  :)

Well fortunately or unfortunately, I'm an optimist, so I can't give up on boyfriends I know there MUST be good ones out there!!!!

The sound is coming from all the speakers and it is only when the car is running.  I think this last boyfriend kinda messed with my RCA's.  He was loading a lot of stuff in the car and I don't know if he has comprimised the integrety of the wire or something.  Do you think an isolator is what I need between the head unit and the amp?  Or maybe just new RCA's?  I hope not new RCA's because these where almost $100.00.

Everything worked fine before, so you will not have to add anything (like noise isolators) to this install.  You do have to troubleshoot the connections, though, to find out where the noise is entering the input wiring, if it is.  But the ground wiring is usually the culprit when you hear engine noise.

I actually found my problem.  It's my RCA's one of the wires must be broken inside because when using other ones - No Noise.  The person I loaned my car to said he got his feet tangled up in one of the wires I had not laid under the carpet yet because I was still testing some things.  Teach me to not finish the job before letting someone else around my work!  Expensive lesson, but boy howdy have I learned!

Thanks for all the input! posted_image
