Using two 12" Type Rs, Which would be louder, 1.25 cf sealed with 400 watts RMS or 2 cf ported (no idea what to tune it to) with 400 watts rms (would this sub be able to handle 400 watts RMS in a ported box or is 300 enough to get really loud). If you havn't noticed already I want to get as loud as possible with this setup.

If its tuned correctly I would have to say the ported enclosure is going to be louder.

Could the Type Rs handle 400 watts RMS each in a ported box though?

As long as the amps are set up properly, I dont see a problem with it.

Ok last question. Would running 400 watts RMS to each sub in a sealed or ported enclosure that i mentioned above, be much louder (like noticably louder), or would an MRD-m501 be enough to get them to slam just as hard?

You could get away w/ using the Alpine amp but they only put out 425 watts @ 2 ohms and under powering the type R's isn't a good idea. The 400 watts ea. is perfect. They'll handle a lot more power than that if it's set up right...

I'd have to suggest going to a sealed enclosure for better sound quality, but if all you want is sloppy "loud" bass the ported is best for you...

I'm doing this for a friend and he listens to mostly rap so ported should be fine. Which of these setups should be louder?

An MRD-M501 (it outputs 550 watts RMS at 2 ohms), two 12" Type Rs in a 2 cf ported box.

An MTX 801D (800 watts RMS at 2 ohms), two 12" Type Rs in a 1.25 cf sealed box.

he would definately like the ported set up more if he likes rap, unfortunately im not great with porting box's, , so im no reall assistance with porting those subs.

Would 275 watts RMS from that MRD-M501 be enough for those subs in a ported box, or would they like 400 watts RMS better? Sorry to ask so many questions, I just want to make sure everything will peform its best.

they would like 400rms better.   Iv put 501's on the pre loaded alpine ported box with the R-12 and the sub didn't bottom out with 550rms.  It shure was loud tho, , almost too loud.
