i have a pioneer hu w/cd changer, but i don't have the manual. Pioneer doesn't really use the standard wire colors. so how do test the wires to see which is which?

How old is the unit? Pioneer has been using common wiring colours for a few years now.

Sounds like you have an older unit. Orange = 12v constant, Red = 12v switched, black is ground, gray = FR(+), gray/black = FR(-), green = FL(+), GREEN/ black = FL(-), GREEN/ red = RL(+) and gray/red = RR(+). I can't remember the exact color for the (-) wires in the rear, but they are next to the (+).

it is an older one, but i'm not quite sure how old. it may be between 4-6 yrs old. thanx for the help raydawg... but for future reference how would i test them or can I ?

If you know what your power and ground wires are, you just have to alternate the other 8 to determine which are the speaker wires, Adjust the fader and the balance and find the speaker. Without knowing your power wires I would 't suggest connecting any type of power to the HU without it going through a 1 amp fuze. This way if it's wrong the fuze will blow and your HU won't fry. Have a lot of 1 amp fuzes with you while experimenting.
