i did a system on an 04 chevy truck. i used metra's wire harness and ran a seperate ign wire to the fuse panel. my customers wanting the stereo to turn on with the key turned back(accy.). i just don't know what to do. do i have to go into the steering column? are other installers doing the same thing i did. maybe thats just the way it is? i cant recall if new chevy stock radios turn on with the key turned back.

the easiest way is to catch the accessory wire on the ignition harness, on the 04 chevy its should be an orange wire, but test to make sure with a ddm , and i usually fuse the wire also.

ok, first i used the harness that gives the chime. i didnt have ign power, and didnt know that id have to run a seperate wire, so i switched the harness with the regular harness w/o chime. thats when i figured out the ign. wire problem. the harness worked, so i left it in. im wondering if the chime harness will give me power when the key is turned back???

if you lost your door chime when you unplugged the factory radio , then you have to use the recation harness. it should come with a speaker for the door chime , but it will not give you ign. on the factory harness . 2000 and newer general motors products wil need an ign. or acc. wire ran to the radio.
