Would be fairly elite.  The same company makes both MTX and Xtant.

Well, Right now i have a 2000 Watt Audiobahn amp running at 2 ohms for a 1000 watts on my one 12" 9500 but i am actually going to ditch that one and get a Thunder 801D hopefully really soon. Eventually I will have two of those amps and two of the 9500 12's so lets hope it get really loud lol.  Well thats my two cents hope if comes on helpful

Later

what about the 1501d?

well according to MTX's website they only recamend a 801D for just one Thunder9500 Dual 4 Ohm sub.

Now you need as close to 1000W RMS as you can, but you need to spend some money.

Crutchfield has a Kenwood for $480 that's rated at 919W RMS with a 2 ohm load or 533W RMS at 4ohm. (model# Excelon KAC-X811D )

Probably but from what i have heard from people on here and actually at my local shops there isnt much SPL difference between using a 1501 and an 801 maybe just a few more notches on the volume nob to make up for it and that way your not beating it as much its also cheaper than the 1501D too and you had metioned not wanting to spead too much

yea you can find a 1501d on e bay for like $330

unless anybody thinks that there might be anything better for this sub , around the 3 to 4 hundred  range

True True I guess i'm thinking brand new cause i can get that amp for 350 brand new so i guess its up to you.

well i guess im just trying to get everybody elses input also since its this forum that made me get this sub in the first place

I guess what i'm saying is that ive heard an 9500 with an 801D on it and it sounded just as loud as mine does with the 1000 watts on it so i guess it comes down to the money you want to spend

Make sure when you get your amp you see this forum for info on setting gain.  Using a number like 3/4 or 1/2 or even 1/4 is completely arbitrary and has nothing to do with proper gain setting.  Cheers!

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I personally recommend American Bass amplifiers.  I know the mtx sub you have and i'm familiar with its ratings. Their website is www.americanbassusa.com for you you might want to use the vfl 150.1. I know your probably thinking only 150 watts but this is only true @ 4 ohms if you run it at a 1ohm load this thing is liable to produce more than 2000 watts.

$400 is not enough money for a GOOD bass amp. But try Planet Audio. It is a pretty good bang for the buck. I recommend the 2250 but I don't think they are making that one anymore but they have a new Vortex line. Check into them.

The MA Audio is a GOOD cheap bass amp also. A friend of mine had on on two 15s and it quaked. But it was a couple of years ago and I don't remember the model number. I just looked at MA Audio's website and it didn't look like any of them. But he really put that amp to the test and it stood up for a long time.

Personally I trhink you were on the right track witht he MTX amps. The 801 d is suffiecent but if you want the bigger amp then get it, its really your call. Just be prepared to spend some big money on wire if you get the 1501d because it is demanding. If you never planned on upgrading I would get the 801d and call it a day.

Well thanks for the input ravendart. As i was just about to get the 1501d i just started reading about the memphis 1000d. and now im confused again!! So many choices, and i dont wanna buy something just to be dissapointed, and i cant afford to do this again (i really cant ) lol   so watcha think????

also wouldent the memphis amp have a "cleaner power" to them??

I havent touched a memphis amp in 2 years so I cant say what its like quality wise. I can only take responsiblity for what I have delt with and in your case thats the MTX stuff. If you can get that 1501 for under 400 bucks I would jump all over it, I didnt have one fail my customers the entire time I sold them, and I cant say that about any other amps I sell except for mabye 1 or 2 other MTX amps, definatly cant say it about any of the RF amps I sell. As far as clean goes, I have never had a problem or comlaint with em.

Also - go to this site: https://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/index.html and click on Interactive Input Sensitivity (“Gain”) Setting Tutorial.

This will give you a pretty good idea on how to properly set your gain. If your amps rating is not on JL's chart (you'll see what I mean) You can use the formula (P*R)^.5                        P = Watts     R=Resistance                ^.5 means square root.    For example - a 1500 watt @ 2 ohm mono amps gain setting should be (1500*2)^.5 = 54.77 VAC
