My speaker box has too much volume what should I do to fix it or can anything even be done

sell it and buy a new one or break it appart and use the wood.

drop some ledge like wood peices on the sides and center  then make a panel(s) to fit in there then seal it up really well.

This happens quite often...subs are inverted where once they were installed normally;  a change in subs from what you used to have...As long as you use a solid filler, as Maxst suggested, to take up the air space, you can use the same enclosure.  A good material to use is a common brick.  Also, pieces of 2X4 can be glued into the box.  Find the amount of space that is over specs.  It will probably be a value in cubic feet.  Multiply by 1728 and you'll have cubic inches.  Measure the dimensions of the filler pieces you want to glue into the box to amount to the proper cubic inch sizes.
