hey ppl, I've been hearing the term "big 3" being thrown around from time to time... i understand this has to do with alternator wiring, etc? can someone define the "big 3" for me? cuz if my cap doesnt stop my lights from dimming, looks like its gonna be this big 3 thing, possibly i High Output alt. thanks!

My understanding is the Big three are the three biggest things you need to make sure are up to par before trying to build your system. They are Altenator, Battery and wiring. Without knowing the type of gear you wanna run I cannot dirrect you anymore than that. ------------- double-secret reverse-osmosis speaker-cone-induced high-level interference distortion, Its a killer

I would suggest upgrading your alternator before you buy a cap. A alternator will help you wat more then a capacitor.

ok cool. i am running an 800w RMS amp, cap seems to be doing nicely so far but they say just the same i should upgrade the "big 3". definately wouldnt hurt i guess, from my understanding the steadiness in voltage i am seeing from my cap is just a temporary "band-aid" fix, and upgrading the alt and wires does make sense.. for the sake of the strain on the amp, wiring etc. just heard the term thrown around from time to time, figured it had to have something to do with the alternator.. thanks

i belive the big 3 was actually , (1)power wire from alt to batt, (2) ground from alt to chassis (3) batt to chassis. you could throw a (4) for engine to chassis, but mainly (2) covers that.

This is very similar to what we will be starting here in the grounding sticky. As we have time to develop the thread, more and more info will be posted to it. There are some things that the sounddomain thread is missing, we should be able to add to it and make it a great resource for all.
