I have a 2004 model L7 15 and i have two amps i could hook it up to, a kx850.2 and a kx1200.1. i know how to wire it but which coil do i run out to the amp. coil 1 or coil 2. the kickers have a dot on the post for coil one and not for coil two. i dont want to burn this sub up by hooking it up wrong. and wiring this 4 ohm dvc sub into a 2 ohm load to the kx wont hurt it will it? i hooked it up for a lil bit today and i kinda smelled something that i didnt think should be there so i shut it off and unhooked the power supply. aight well thanks for the help.

Since the two coils are wired in parallel, it makes no difference from which coil you run the wires to the amp (or the terminal plate on the box). Since you've got one 4 ohm DVC sub, you shouldn't use the 2-channel amp because you would be forced to have to wire each voice coil to a separate channel. You wouldn't be able to bridge a 2 ohm load onto the amp. Use the mono amp. What is the 1200's power rating at 2 ohms? And does that match or come close to the sub's RMS rating?
I just looked it up, the L7 can handle an RMS of 1000 watts. The 1200 is rated at 1200 watts at 1 ohm. Wire the sub paralleled to a 2 ohm load and connect it to the KX1200. It shouldn't break a sweat with that load. Just maybe the new smell of the voice coil heating up for the first time.

i would just wire it up in parallel, and run it to the 1200.1 you will be able to get more power out of your amp that way, and give it just the same if not more power than running the 2 amps on it, Plus i wouldn't suggest running 2 different amps on the sub.

With the two channel amp...I should have said that you would be forced to wire the sub in series for an 8 ohm load and bridge that to the amp.
