2000 Mercury Sable CD Player install

I have a 2000 Mercury Sable with premium sound and I am keeping the factory deck and I put a line out converter so I can use my 900 watt amp. My problem: The amp is not coming on. I had the line out converter put on(so I know its right). I also ran my remote wiring from the back of the deck (Its hooked into the switched 12V power wire.) And doing all this, the amp is still not coming on. If anybody has done this before or has any ideas for me please reply to this forum and also email me.

Check your fuses, first of all. Then use a voltmeter to make sure you have power on your power and remote lines, measured to ground (measure these at the actual terminals on the amp so you're testing the wire too), and that your line out converter is putting a signal out. If that checks out, it sounds like a possible bad amp.

OK, there is power coming to the amp from my positive wire. I didnot feel any power from the remote wiring that is hooked to my switched 12V in the back of my deck. Is there anything else to hook the remote wire to to maybe help turn on the amp? I really think that is my problem. BTW The amp works. I went to a friends house and we tested it on his stuff and it worked.

You did not _feel_ power?   Try shorting the remote and +12V leads on your amp (for testing, don't leave it like that if you want your battery to last)

Shorting the remote wire and the positive line to my amp? Do you mean to see if they spark?

I noticed something too. The line out converter that was put on has some controls on the bottom of it I think to switch frequencies (i didnt really understand what those were when the guy put it on was trying to explain it to me). Will that have anything to do with it?

by "shorting the remote wire" all you're doing is jumping the 12V from the battery to the remote turn on, therefore turning the amp on. the small dials on the bottom of the line out converter i'm bettin is just the gains. it's probably a variable voltage output like from say.. 1-4 volts.

ohh ok. Thank You so much for the info guys. It has helped tremendously. After all this, to be honest, it still will not come on. I went to Best Buy and he tested the remote at the amp and there was no voltage at all coming through. He checked some areas around my factory amp, and found a place that had some voltage and just enough to put the remote wiring on. I went home and did that and still it will not come on. I did get closer to doing so though. When I finally got the remote wire hooked up to where the Best Buy guy told me to and then attached it back to my amp, I turned on my car and the interior speakers stopped working for about 30 sec. and then came back but the amp still refuses to come on. I would appreciate some more assistance as this is becoming a huge pain in my ass. Thanks ahead of time for the replies. I will continue to listen and take your guys advice.
