Hey guys i'm new on this forum, anyways, I was looking into putting a system in my car and I was looking at these Alpine Type E's. I know they are somewhat cheap but i'm trying not too spend too much. Anyways, I know that Alpine has a good reputation but are these subs worth it? I noticed that the cone is made of pulp which is what most stock car speakers are made of i think, is this a bad thing? Thanks.

Listen to them first, and buy what you can afford.  Even a cheap speaker can sound good if you take the time and care in building the enclosure and setting up the system and the car.  Upgrade when you can afford to.  You get what you pay for, but you can make what you've paid for sound pretty good with diligent effort.

I actually like the sound of the type-E's over the type-R's, , its a tighter sound, , hence the reason why i have one right now.   yes it is a pulp cone, , but its kevlar reinforced  ( bullet proof vest material)  .  take a listen to them, for $50 ( e-bay)  there one of the best subs out there.

One more question about them, I've heard that humidity is bad for pulp cone speakers, and I live in Florida where it is really humid all the time. Does the fact that they are treated with kevlar counteract this?

You will have no problem at all, the cone is sealed.  The only time you should have to worry about moisture is when its in a boat getting splashed, , or if its winter time and water gets in the surround and freezes, ,but this sub has a rubber type surround so its not really a concern.

Alright, last question since you brought up ebay. Is it really smart to buy electronics from ebay? I buy t-shirts and stuff off of there all the time, but i've heard a few bad stories about people buying electronics from there. Most sellers make it very clear that they're selling the product "as-is" which I guess means if it doesn't work, too bad. I have to admit though. . . if there are some trustworthy sellers out there you can get stuff for way cheaper than normally.

I've bought a few things on e-bay (subs, amps) and have not had a bad experience, though I too have heard of several bad experiences. If you are going to buy, try to make sure that they will stand behind it, never buy anything that is stated as "as-is", and make sure that the seller has lots of good feedback. There are a few good sellers out there with over 20000+ positive feedback.

When buying new, , alway, and i mean ALWAYS, buy from companys that are selling on e-bay, , they will have a heuge selection of products all new, and often back them with a warranty through themselves.  Definately check there feedback, if theres something in the last month that scares you, then keep on lookin at other listings.  Its best to pay with pay pal through credit cards, ,that way you have fraud protection through your credit card, , ,and that is also backed up by pay pals fraud protections, , so your double protected, , unlike a money order where the guy can take it and run.

Keep an eye on shipping costs, , some guys will have a low starting price for the item but an outragiously high shipping price to offset the costs.
