Okay heres my issue.  i have 92 deville and i just installed a new system and the problem is when i have the volume on say 15 out of 33 there is barely any sound comming from speakers. and no sound below 7.  i've gotta turn up the volume to 25 or higher(highest is 33) to get some real sound.  I installed a Clarion DB345MP head unit with 2 rca outputs which are hooked up to an Apline MRP-F240 4 channel amp(which the gains are almost all the way up just to get a lil bit of sound).  The apline amp is connected to 2 boston fx7's(4x6) in the dash and 2 boston fx5's(5 1/4) in the doors.  The ouput of the alpine amp is then connected to my kenwood kac-7201 amp.  i have 2 12 JL WO's in a bandpass box.  4 awg power wire to a 1/2 farad cap and 8 awg to the amps, 16 awg speaker wire, all Montser, including the rca wires.  all power is down the passenger side of the car and the speaker and rca's are run down the drivers side.  so im pretty sure the wiring is stable.  also i ve tried running just one rca to the sub amp and used some monster rca split connectors i guess they are called to the other amp. still same problem.  then i connected to the dash speakers fx7's directly to the head units speaker wires and still very very low.  im thinkin it could just be that head unit and ima need a new one.  but thought i would ask u guys for advice.  maybe some of u have ran into the same problem.  i thought it could have been my wiring but i connected the speakers directly to the head unit and still low sound.  any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Ben

What do you mean by the gains are all the way up? Do you mean the sensitivities are at the highest voltage settings? If they are, you'll probably have to turn the sensitivities to a lower voltage (check your deck's manual and see what the RCA output voltage is).

yes gains/sensitivities

but regaurdless of that fact i hooked up the speakers to the h/u directly so the amp is out the pic.

sounds like a faulty HU to me, if under warranty send it back, ,  if not...look into quality units that will complement your system better like Eclipse, Nakamichi, Alpine.  Clarion is a good middle of the road brand, but for the money you can get more features from the mentioned brands.
