I noticed after going down a dirt road my right front speaker was making a noise. I assumed I jarred something loose and it was just something viberating in the door panel. I took the door panel off and found that one of the wires had pulled out of the connector and was touching, but not well connected. I thought I could simply re-connect the wire and fix my problem....... not so.
I took the speaker out of the door, held it in my and and it's clearly static. I looked closer at the tweeter and it's got a crack right down the middle. :x Could this be caused by the loose connection or the dirt road? Or is it a factory defect? The speakers are Blaupunkt PCxT462 (2-way transparent 4x6's). I bought Blaupunkt's all the way around and I've only had them since the end of January. If this starts happening with my 6x9's I will not be happy.
Anyone know what might cause this? Is it worth trying to get a replacement under warranty or just buy a new set?
If I understand what you're saying a similar thing happened to my 2way Rockford Fosgates. The speaker cone distorted and became "jammed" around the tweeter post. I was guessing it was do to overheating.
It was probably constructed using cheap materials and for some reason the cone physically distorted causing the cone to crack.

I think the only way the car jarring would have causeed this would be if the door was auctually flexing and bening the speaker, I really really hope this isnt your situation

Interesting info guys. I don't know much about speakers, but I'm pretty sure this isn't right. Here's a picture, you can see the crack right down the middle.
It does seem like it could be a defect. Maybe moisture and freezing weather(if it started to become damaged in january) then finally went on the dirt road. If you can, I say return them and stay away from the transparent series.
If it's still under warranty take it back for a replacement.

Nah, I didn't have the problem until just a week or so ago *right* after going down the dirt road and it's been 95+ degrees here so it couldn't have been freezing. I already ordered some replacement Blaupunkt's (not transparent) and I'm going to call them when I get time to see about warranty replacement. They are stamped July 02, so they may not be under warranty. I was aware they were closeouts when I bought them and the price reflected that.
