I'm new to all of this so please bare with me. I need some advice as to what materials, in particular the wiring, that I will need for the equipment that I've purchased to put in my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Here is a list of things that I've already purchased.
Alpine CDA-9833 Head Unit (already installed), four Polk db650 6 1/2" speakers, two MTX Thunder4000 10" subs, MTX Thunder895 5 channel amp (ordered and on the way).
The way my factory set up is wired, it's going to a factory amp under the back seat, then going out to the speakers. Can I just replace the factory amp with the new amp and use the existing wiring, or do I have to use new wiring, and if so, what guage wire should I use, and what brand wire should I use. Chances are that I'm going to end up having it professionally installed, but I'd like to know these things to increase my knowledge of car audio. Any other tips and suggestions are also welcome. Thank You!!
You dont NEED to replace the factory wiring but it is definatly suggested. As for gauge any thing more than 16 gauge for your speakers is over kill and probally 12-14 gauge for the subs is suffiecent. I would run a 4 gauge wire for power and ground and a decent set of RCA's. You can use stinger stuff, which is what I sell, and it always seem to work well. Pheniox gold wiring is also good, as is lightning audio and street wires.
