First, I need to know it this is true or not. A friend has a 2002 Chevy Cavalier with premium sound. He wants me to put in a head unit for him, but he was told that the wiring harness for the car is linked to his air bags. So he hasn't gotten it done yet. I need to know if this is true or no, and if so how to get around it. Also, I have installed a FM Modulated CD Changer in my truck. The unit gets power, but the control box doesn't turn on or do anything. What should I look for to fix the problem.

The way the new gm vehicles are set up, yes, the airbags alone with several other functions can be affected. I've yet to experience any air bag issues, but I have noticed the loss of the door chime.

Okay, that is some good information. Now, on to the changer unit. I have the wires taped into the power supply correctly, I have the unit grounded properly. What else can there be?

On some fm changers, the ground is ran up front with the power wires and others have the ground wire near the changer itself. It really doesn't matter. Your main concern with that vehicle is where you're going to catch your switched power (red wire). If you're going to catch it from the fuse box, I would recommend catching the unpowered side of the fuze and running another fuze in line. Me personnally, I catch the ignition wire in the main harness (orange or brown) and run an inline fuze.

The ground is real short compared to the rest of the wires, and it is close to the changer. I ran the red and yellow to the appropriate wires in my radio harness. Do you think that has anything to do with the fact that I get power to the unit but not the display. I also changed out the changer for the same one and the controller. It is still doing nothing.

No that shouldn't matter. Ground the changer near the changer. Check to see if your controller has a reset button. Most units have to be reset when they are installed. Also make sure that your power connections are correct. Some units use the red as constant and the yellow as switched. ------------- Do it right the first time
