Ok. Quick qusetion. I had a customer ask me if I could install some 6x9's int he top of his old school Oldsomobile. There is room and everything int he back along the headboard but I am wondering if anyone has done this and how it sounded moving it from the rear deck up to the headboard. He thinks it will be sort of like a kicker box for the rear, angleing the speakers towards your ears. He makes a good point. Any input is appreicated. Thanks! -Rob

I've never attempted this, but I have tried angling speakers to fire towards the listeners ears. IMO it sounds like crap. W/o the reflection off the rear deck it sounds really high and is actually too loud. It will over power the front speakers and if ur putting subs in it will drain ur bass out. Personally I'd have to discourage that setup. Maybe someone else has a little more info for ya but thats my $.02

What happens when he gets into an accident and the speakers/enclosure comes loose and hits some one in the head? Also anyone who puts 6x9 boxes on rear decks are morons as well.

Back in the ''70s it was common to put aftermarket speakers up on the rear shelf, and have all the sound coming from them. But that was a time when the front soundstage wasn't used at all...all the sound came from the rear. It most definitely is from the dark ages, and wouldn't be appreciated by today's standards. Old car or not, he should want his music to sound good, and as extreme said, it would end up being too overwhelming from the rear.

keep in mind without a solid surface to mount the speakers to and without a proper baffle area for the drivers he will have almost no low end response at all......
