Subject: relay won’t mute radio

I have recently had a Nokia 6230 and car kit CARK-126 fitted in my 1999 mercedes benz E class which has a Eurovox radio.  As there is not mute wire from this radio the installer put a relay on the accessory input line.  THe mute function works perfectly when the ignition is in the accessory position but will not work at all when the engine is running.  Can anybody help me here.

When you take the key out, does the radio stay on till you open the door?

Always check info with a digital multimeter.
I promise to be good.
Tell Darwin I sent you.

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

Thank you for your reply.

No, the car does not have that feature.  It still has the conventional radio shutoff as soon as you turn the key to the off position

no reason it should work in both situations if the relay is wired correctly.....

Problem Solved

We replaced the relay with one which has a much lower coil resistance and it solved the problem.

Apparently the yellow ground wire from the Nokia CARK 126 Carkit does not have  a strong enough pull for coils of higher resistance and sometimes does not even have enough ground pull for some radios which have a mute wire facility provided.
