Car: 1999 Hyundai Sonata V6 Automatic Trans Yesterday I removed my entires system to try and find where some distortion was comming from. I removed my Tweeters and a could ground loop isolators that were doing nothing. After i reassembled everything I went to start the car I couldn't turn the key. I have power because my lights turn on. But when I put the key in I can't turn it. My friend said that since this was the first time i've ever removed my HU (circuit city put it in) i could of activated some kind of security device that locks the car ignition. How trues is this. Does anyone know if I have this on my car? If not does anyone know what elsee could of happened I tried to look for loose wires under the dash and anywhere where I had audio equip. I checked all of my fuses under the hood. The car aslo has some kind of aftermarket alarm and keyless entry on it. I believe that it is called code alarm (I'll double check when i can). The only thing is now i'm 160mi away from my car at college. There's a locksmith going to look at the car tomorrow but I don't know what he'll be able to do, but he said he'll check it out (And its covered by AAA) If not i guess i'll be towing it to a Hyundai dealer and see what they can do.

If you can't turn the key, it sounds like a mechanical problem, and nothing to do w/ u removing your system. Sounds like the lock cylinder is bad. Did u try to turn the steering wheel a little while turning the key? Some cars have a lock mechanism if u've locked up the wheels. If u do bring it to the dealer, don't mention anything about what u did. Let them troubleshoot from scratch.

sounds like you turned the steering wheel and it locked on you, , , all you gota do it turn the wheel hard and turn the key. Tell your parents to do that before AAA makes you look like a tool.

It's happened to me while working as an installer. It was hot, I was irritated and I tried to turn on a car I had been working on. I said "this thing is a sh*tbox, we need to get this out of here, the ignition is stuck!" The other guy came over and turned it on like there was nothing wrong at all. I felt like a real dumbass... sometimes it needs the magic touch!
