SPL-brand subs is a low-end line from Power Acoustik - which is a low-end line to begin with.  The box they come in probably sounds better than they do, unless all you want is loud noise.

If those subs are as bad as the FUBR-12 subs power acoustik makes then dont even bother wasting time or money.

I hooked up a couple of FUBR-12's for a freind and the woofers or overrated on power handling by 500-600 watt's

Needless to say the woofers didnt even last a week before the caught on fire. As for the sound muddy and no very tight!!

So you're sayin it's not even worth hooking it up then?

If you already own it and cannot afford anything better for a while.  I'am sure it would be better then nothing.  Personally I enjoy putting a cheap woofer in a good box, and pounding the sh*t out of it until it blows.

I have never heard a SPL sub. But a couple freinds of mine have SPL amps, they are extremly unimpressive.

I was recently trying to make 3 sony P-5 X-Plodes "Explode" in my truck just for fun with a 1000 soundstream. What I found though was that those crappy red pantagons I got for barely nothing actually "Pounded". I pushed them and pushed them for 6 months and they just wanted more. The current owner loves them and pounds them everyday. Not the greatest for SQ but definitely a Sh*t-load of SPL. For $25 a sub new I would recommend them to any "beginner" who needs a lot of bang for their buck.

The last subs I was able to destroy were the 8000 series MTX's. They hit hard and clean but eventually fell apart from day to day poundin' abuse.

If anyone wants 2 brand new 10" MTX 8000 T8104A subs (the polished aluminum face), PM me. They are warranty replacements and will be here today.

You know, SPL isn't that bad. Several of their subs hit pretty hard, and don't need much power. The SPL amps match nicely, and they last long. Power Acoustik has done a great deal of improvements over the last 4 years, they just hit the main stream a little too quickly (like some other not-to-be-named popular brands). The only thing that they don't do well (yet) is the monitors -- skip those. But the SPL line is an affordable option.

Good Luck.

we ran some of the "High End" SPL subs just for fun, they look huge and they really are.      They were far from clean, I will say that but they were 15's and they did pound far beyond our expectations

My friend has some 10" SPL subs. (I think they are the least expensive subs SPL makes). They sounded ok for rap but not on anything else really. Their power handling was pretty overrated also.

Nothing more fun around my shop than taking an old Sh**ty sub back to the proving grounds...

This area consists of 1 Orion XTR 1400...2 Optima Yellow tops and a 50 amp Pow Supply.

One Sealed 1.2 cuFt enclosure and some wire....

Nothing brings a smile to someones face quicker than seeing crappy subs serperate at loud volumes...

I have sacrificed many Many subs at the Alter to the Audio Gods...Boss's Ripper Series really stink when you melt the VCs..If you havent done something like this give it a try on a rainy day...GREAT FUN
