Subject: LCD at faceplate dead

Hello there! Yesterday, my LCD stop working. It was weird because I used it before for just half an hour, I washed my car (OFF).... and when I turn it on... nothing. Right now, everything works well. The CD player, tuner, even the buttons!
I checked the power and ground connections, and nothing. Now, I have 3 options: 1- Send the faceplate to repair (Do you recommend this??) 2- Buy another faceplate (Do you know where and how?) 3- Buy another HU (not good, because I donīt have enough money)
Any answer to my questions??? Thx ------------- Eggs putines!

the 2 most common sources of this proplem that we see are that the LCD has been bumped or skewed and is not making contact with PCB anymore ( this is most prevalent when the faceplate gets dropped ) or the flex foil between the detach face and the motherboard is failing.......

I did it. And nothing happened. I checked in Kenwood webpage, and the faceplate costs $200. Itīs so expensive!! Isnīt it? ------------- Eggs putines!

well obviously you have to properly diagnose where the problem is first..... if the LCD got whacked out of alignment you take the faceplate apart and re-align it...... ( dont try this at home kids ) if you meter the flex foil ( ribbon cable ) and one of the circuits is open ( which is what happens when they start to fatigue ) then you replace the flex foil ------------- Kevin Gerry

of course if the problem is the ribbon cable, replacing the faceplate wont do a bit of good will it?? go back and read the posted replys you've been given... now go back and read them again... you'll notice it was mentioned that you'll actually have to do a teeny tiny little bit of self-diagnosis..... or were you hoping someone would fly down and look after it for you?? ------------- Kevin Gerry
